The Nikkei Senior Golfers had their beginning in October 1982, when eight couples took a seven-day 
golf tour to the "Golf Capital of the World".  They started at courses in Pinehurst, North Carolina 
and ended up at courses in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  That trip was particularly enjoyable with 
good courses and compatible people sharing it all.

Ike Ekinaka, was a member of that tour group.  He had been thinking  of "forming a club", so at the 
final night's dinner at the Sheraton in South Carolina he proposed the idea to the group.  Everyone 
was in agreement; thus, the beginning of Nikkei Senior Golfers.  The requirement then was that both 
husband and wife be golfers and one of them at least fifty years old.  The club's purpose was to 
take out-of-town golf tours about three or four times a year.

The club started out in 1982 with sixteen charter members.  Charter members were: Ike and Yuri 
Ekinaka, Duke and Sherri Izumita, Mas and Helen Munekiyo, Kats and Yasuko Nagamoto, Hiro and Shiz 
Naramura, Clarence and Helen Nishizu, Dave and Ruth Nitake, and Isamu and Sets Tomooka.

By 1984 the club had grown to thirty couples and the age limit was raised to sixty years.  In 
November 1992, the membership limit was increased to fifty couples.
